4 Ways To Make Money From Your Blog

If you follow the same path as most successful marketers you will have a blog at the center of your online business. It is part of the ‘system’ that is tried and proven to work so I would expect that you would have a blog. Of course, when you first start out your blog may well be all that you have as you have yet to develop the rest of your business. When I teach my students the first thing I tell them to do is set up a blog and start posting to it on a regular basis.

Your blog is part of the branding process as well as the hub of your online empire. It gets your name out in the big wide online world. It is also the place where you learn to generate good quality content on a regular basis. As such your blog provides a useful platform from which to begin the process of creating your own products. A third use for your blog is that it can become the place from which you can start to make money. It is this aspect of blogging that I want to take a quick look at in this article.

There are many different monitization startegies that you might choose from. What I am going to consider here is four of the most common and easy to implement. Of course there are others but these are the most common and proven to produce at least some results.

The first thing that most bloggers who want to monitize their sites start with is Google AdSense advertising. AdSense allows you to place adverts from Google advertisers directly onto your blog. You can choose to insert ads as clickable text links, banners or even in video format. You get paid a small commission when visitors to your blog click on these adverts and view them.

To get started with Google AdSense you will need to already have some good quality content on your blog. Realistically you will want to have at least five but, more ideally, ten posts in your blog before you try to set up AdSense. These posts will need to be of good quality and unique as they will have to pass Google’s quality guidelines.

Once Google has approved your site you can insert ad blocks in the format you desire using a pice of code that Google will provide for you. AdSense will then match appropriate adverts from their network of advertisers to the content in your blog and these will appear in the place or places that you have set up on your blog.

I would have to say that AdSense is a great starter method for monitizing your blog but you are certainly not going to get rich from using it. However, some income is better than none at all so it may well be worth considering to start with.

The second method fro making money from your blog is affiliate marketing. This strategy can work well in conjunction with Google AdSense if you work things through carefully. Affliate marketing is a strategey where you sell other marketer’s products or services for a comission. The amount of the commission varies but it is normal for it to be at least 50% of the value of the product.

This strategy is a simple matter of adding affiliate links to your blog content as well as banners on your blog’s sidebar and footer. You could also put them under the blog’s header section but I would not recommend this as it does distract from the content and so increases the chances of losing the visitor before they have seen your content and decided whether they like it or not.

You could even devote entire posts to reviewing specific products and back that up by sending an e-mail or two to your list in support of the post. However you use it the key to affiliate marketing is honesty. Only promote products that you believe in and that you believe will be beneficial to your readers rather than just beneficial to your Paypal account.

If you want to find appropriate products to promote there are a number of places that you can go to find them. Clickbank and JVZoo are two examples but you could also consider Amazon or Warrior Plus, which will allow you to promote many products on the Warrior Forum as an affiliate. There are others as well if none of these suit you.

The third method for monitizing your blog is to sell advertising space. The amount you can realistically charge for this advertising is based on your audience size and the niche that you operate in. By offering the space you make available on your blog (or in your regular e-mails) on platforms such as BuySellAds you can find advertisers who may be willing to place adverts on your blog. You get to approve the ads before placement, which is done using custom code from BuySellAds.

The next method I want to consider is, in my opinion, the best and most sustaianble of all of them. It is the offering of information products, especially those that you create and own yourself. Once you have built up a good sized audience and they perceive you as an authority in your niche, you are in a position to offer more detailed and in-depth content in the form of paid e-books, courses and even your own membership sites.

Think about it for a moment. If your readership likes and trusts you then it follows that they will be willing to pay for products that you create that appeal to their own needs. They may even be looking for you to create products. I have written often in this blog about creating products and it is a method that I certainly believe in. It is not as hard as you might initially think… and a very useful benefit on the side is that you can then recruit your own affiliates to sell your product for you as well!

The key to being successful in selling information products is having a mailing list to promote to as well as posting banners and links on your blog. In fact, I suggest you need to have a list of not only potential buyers but also potential affiliates as well.

As I said at the beginning there are many other ways of making money from your blog but these four I have mentoned provide a solid platform to build from. It is a matter of experimenting and working out what you are comfortable with and what works for you and your followers.
